Zoom doesn’t need any introduction, as with the arrival of the pandemic, most of us had to start working from home. However, the work-from-home schedule seemed harsh at first but was made easy by Zoom. This app allowed people to meet face-to-face and carry on with their work. People didn’t hesitate to it as it was free and came with many features such as muting everyone, raising hands, ending the meeting for everyone, etc.

zoom limit

But despite all that, Zoom had some limitations such as max participants, time limit of meetings, etc. So, here we will provide you with all the information regarding Zoom Limit – Max Participants, Meeting Duration, and Others.

Zoom Limit – Max Participants, Meeting Duration

Zoom is a video calling app that lets you talk to your colleagues, friends, and family. The video calling feature also allows you to share your screen, record sessions, etc.

Zoom has a free plan and paid plans as well. The Free plan comes with some limitations, such as participant limit, time limit, etc. Though these don’t pose any significant issue, sometimes the zoom time limit is quite frustrating.

The app has a total of four plans, and those are

  • Basic
  • Pro
  • Business
  • Enterprise

The Zoom Basic plan is available for free, and for the other plans, you need to pay. The features and limitations for all the other plans are different as well. You can refer to the image below to know more about the features of each plan.

how to use zoom

Zoom Limit For Meetings

For the free plan, i.e., the Basic plan, a zoom limit for meetings is set to 40 minutes, and for the paid plans, the meeting limit is 30 hours. Once the 40 minutes are up in the free plan, all the meeting participants will be kicked out automatically.

There are two ways for free users to extend the cap on their meeting limit, and those are

  • Upgrading to a paid plan. If you are a small business, then that would be a significant step forward.
  • There is no official method for free users, but there is a workaround method, which is leaving the meeting as a host and starting a New Meeting. After that, you can reshare the joining link to the participants and the Zoom 40-minute limit restart again. According to Zoom, the cap is on the time limit of a meeting, not on the number of meetings.
zoom time limit for meetings

By following the last method, you can get the zoom 40-minute limit removed. You can read our Bypass 40 Minutes On Zoom for a detailed guide.

Zoom Participants Limit

Similar to the zoom limit for meetings, for the free plan users, there is a cap on the number of participants in a meeting as well, and that is 100. But if you are a paid user, the number varies from plan to plan, such as

  • Basic – 100 Participants
  • Pro – 100 Participants
  • Business – 300 Participants
  • Enterprise – 500 Participants

There are optional add-on plans that will allow you to add more participants despite being in a different plan. For example, if you are using the Business but need to take in more participants, you can get the Large Meetings add-on and add up to 500 – 1000 more participants on top of what you are getting with the plan. But of course, you need to pay extra.

participant limit for zoom meeting

Zoom Limits For Cloud Recording

Zoom lets you record your meetings, which is available for even the basic plan. The recordings done with the basic plan can be stored locally. However, the paid plans allow you to store your recordings on the cloud, but there are limitations. The Pro Plan and the Business Plan provide you with cloud storage of 1 GB each, and the Enterprise plan offers you unlimited cloud storage.

You need to take permission; though it might not be ethical, you can still record Zoom meetings. You can read our record zoom meeting without the permission guide.

Zoom Events & Webinars Limit

Similar to the Zoom limit on meetings, they also have limits on events & webinars. The number of people that can attend a webinar varies from 100 to 10,000, and the price varies accordingly. There is no free plan when it comes to Zoom events and Webinars as everything thing is paid for here.

If you go beyond 10,000 attendees, then you can talk to the Zoom sales team and get an extra limit for additional payment.

zoom meeting and webinar participant limit

Conclusion

So, this was all about the Zoom limits on their various features. If you want to know more about the multiple features and the plans and pricing, you can visit the official website of Zoom. Though Zoom has quite many features, there are similar or better video conferencing apps like zoom, such as Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, etc. Hopefully, the information provided here has been of help to you.

If you’re having problems changing your name on Zoom, don’t worry, you’re not alone. Many people have been struggling to make this change, but fortunately, there is a fix. In this blog post, we will walk you through the steps to take so that you can successfully change your name on Zoom. We’ll also explain why this process isn’t working for some people and how to get around the issue.

First, let’s take a look at why you might want to change your name on Zoom. There are many reasons why this might be important to you. Perhaps you’ve recently gotten married and would like to use your new name on Zoom. Or maybe you’ve changed your name legally and would like to update your information on the platform. Whatever the reason, it’s important to know that you have the option to change your name on Zoom if you want to.

fix can't change name on zoom

What is Display Name on Zoom?

This is the name that will show up next to your video when you are in a meeting. The default is your first and last name, but you can change it to anything you want.

Why I Can’t Change Name on Zoom

There are multiple reasons why one can’t change their name on Zoom. This mostly happens on their app for smartphones. There are a couple of other reasons as well.

At first, let’s see how to fix the problem on the Zoom mobile app then we’ll move to other workarounds.

Fix: Can’t Change Your Name on Zoom App

If you are using the Zoom app on your Android or iOS device then follow the steps given below to fix the problem right away.

First of all, make sure that you’re using the latest version of Zoom. If you are on Android then open the Google play store and search for the Zoom app. Open the Zoom app listing page and see if there is an update available. If an update is available and then update it to the latest version right away. If it is already updated to the latest version then continue.

Similarly, if you are an iPhone user then open App Store and see if there is a pending update available for Zoom or not. Make sure to update to the latest version if available.

Even if updating doesn’t fix the issue for you then the next thing that you want to do is to clear the cache of the Zoom app.

To clear cache, just follow the steps given below.

  • Open your smartphone device settings
  • Go to Apps > Installed Apps
  • Search and find Zoom from the list and tap on it
  • Under storage, you will find an option called Clear Cache. Just tap on the option and wait for a second.
clear zoom cache
  • Now, we have successfully cleared the cache. Now try opening the zoom app and see if you are able to change your name again.

Fix: Can’t Change The Name While On A Meeting

You might have noticed that you don’t get the option to change your display name while attending a meeting. The reason why it happens is that the host might have disabled the option for the attendees to rename their names during the meeting.

If you host a meeting on Zoom, you will be given the option to enable or disable the option to rename the display name.

So, if you want to change your Zoom name while attending a meeting then all you have to do is ask your host to give permission to rename the name. If that doesn’t work, then you may exit the meeting, change the name and join the meeting again. This way you don’t need the host’s permission to change the name.

How To Change Name on Zoom?

The process for changing your name on Zoom is relatively simple.

First, open the Zoom app and sign in. Then, click on the settings icon and select “Profile.” From there, you can update your name and other information. Make sure to save your changes when you’re done.

Also see How to Bypass 40 Minutes Limit on Zoom and watch movies together with your friends remotely using Zoom as well.

Conclusion

These are some of the common problems faced by users while trying to change the name on Zoom. The workarounds given above should help you easily fix the issue and change the name.

Next time onwards, if you note that you are not able to change your name while in a meeting, keep in mind that it is because the host has disabled the option to rename the display name on Zoom.

Even after following all the steps given above and still if you’re not able to change your name on Zoom then you might want to get in touch with the Zoom support team and they can definitely help you with the issue.

Hopefully, this blog post has helped you to understand why you can’t change your name on Zoom and how to fix the issue. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to let us know. Thanks for reading!

Did you know that you have the option to blur your background in Zoom? Yes, you heard it right. So, let’s see how to blur the background while on a Zoom meeting.

Chances are, you might be attending the Zoom meeting from your home. If you care about your privacy and want to hide things in the background, the best way to do so is by either blurring the background or using a custom background on Zoom.

Blur Zoom Background

How to Blur Your Background in a Zoom Meeting

If you are new to Zoom and don’t know how to blur the background then keep on reading the article.

First of all, open the Zoom application and log in to your account. If you don’t already have one then register for a new account.

Make sure that you have updated Zoom to the latest version. If yes, move to the next step otherwise click on your profile picture from the top right corner. Now, click on the option called ‘Check for Updates‘.

Check for Updates

Now the update screen will pop up. If a new update is available then click on the Update button and wait for it to complete. Otherwise, follow the next step to blur the background in a Zoom video call.

Click on the Profile Picture from the top right corner of the screen and click on Settings

From the options on the left side of the screen, select Video, and under the Camera section, select the right camera that you’ll be using for Zoom video calls.

Next, move to the ‘Background & Filters‘ option. This is the place where we’ll change the background blur settings.

Background & Filters
Background & Filters

Under the ‘Virtual Backgrounds‘ option, you need to select the second option called “Blur

Select Blur Filter

As soon as you click on the Blur option, you’ll notice that the background has blurred.

Sadly, there’s no option to control the intensity of the blur. If you are happy with the results then close the Settings window and now you may attend a meeting and your background will be blurred.

This is by far the easiest method to blur the background in zoom. Zoom has introduced this option in the latest version of its application. If you want to have more control over things like the intensity of the blur then you’ll have to edit an image with the required blur intensity and then use it as a custom background.

Blur Zoom Background on Android/iOS

Zoom also provides us the option to blur the background on the app for Android and iOS as well. If you use a smartphone then follow the steps given below to easily blur background during a video call.

The blur option is only available on Zoom version 5.6.6 (2076) or higher. So make sure to update the app before proceeding further.

Open the Zoom app on your Android or iOS device.

Now you need to either host a new meeting or join a meeting

Once you are there in the meeting, click on the More options from the navigation bar on the bottom section of the app.

(You can also blur the background even before joining a meeting. While on the preview screen, tap on the custom background menu to find the Blur option)

Now move to the Background section and tap on the option called Blur.

Blur on Zoom
Blur on Zoom

This will instantly blur your background on the Zoom app for Android or iOS. The steps are pretty much the same for both the operating system.

So, this is how we blur the background in a Zoom meeting easily.

Fix Zoom Background Blur Edge Detection

A lot of people are complaining about not-so-good-looking edge detection problems while enabling the blur background option in Zoom.

As you might already know, Zoom does not provide us with any option to control the intensity or change the settings related to the background blur option. So the only option that you have is to make sure to update the Zoom application to the latest version.

Zoom releases updates very frequently with bug fixes and new features. If you’re using an older version then it is advised that you update to the latest version to fix the Zoom background blur edge detection error while on a meeting.

Zoom is the most popular online meeting platform that has gained popularity during the pandemic. A lot of educational institutions, organizations use zoom to conduct online meetings remotely from any part of the world.

You might be already aware that the free version of Zoom is only capable of hosting a meeting for 40 minutes. Well, there is a workaround to get rid of the 40 minutes limit on Zoom without subscribing to the premium plan and here is how. As soon as it hits the 40 minutes time mark, the Zoom meeting will end automatically, and all the participants will be removed.

Officially, the only way to get rid of 40 minutes limit on the free plan of Zoom is to subscribe to one of Zoom’s premium plans. The premium plan will let the Host add more than 99 people and host the meeting for up to 24 hours.

In this article, let’s look at a trick that will help you bypass the 40 minutes limit on Zoom easily and host meetings for any amount of time. This will be helpful when you want to watch a movie together with your friends via Zoom.

Bypass 40 Minutes Zoom Limit

About Different Zoom Plans

Zoom comes with both free as well as premium plans. There are certain restrictions on the free plan that sometimes makes us annoying.

There are four plans in Zoom:

  • Basic – Free
  • Pro – $14.99
  • Business – $19.99
  • Enterprise – $19.99

Above given are all the different plans available on Zoom. And here is the limitations on the free plan:

  • Only Host up to 100 participants
  • Group meetings up to 40 minutes
  • One to one session for up to 30 hours

The second option, 40 minutes limit, is the problem here. Some meetings will be more than 40 minutes in terms of duration, and not all of them could afford the premium version of Zoom. This is where the trick mentioned below will help you bypass the Zoom free plan limit.

In short, you can easily host meetings for more than 40 minutes without subscribing to the premium plan. Works well on the free plan itself.

How to Get Around Zoom’s 40 Minutes Time Limit?

Follow the guide given below to get the Zoom time limit removed.

Step 1: First of all, open Zoom and log in to your account. If you do not already have an account, create a new one and sign in to it.

Step 2: Now, instead of clicking the New Meeting button, click the Schedule button with the calendar icon.

Schedule Zoom Meeting
Schedule Zoom Meeting

Step 3: A pop-up box will appear where you want to configure necessary things like the start time, end time, name of the meeting, and many other options.

You may give a name to the meeting under the Topic field.

Under the Date & Time option, select the date and time when you want to host the meeting. You can choose the time every 30 minutes.

Configure other settings as per your wish, and under Calender options, make sure to select Other Calendars options. Do not select iCal, Google Calendar or Outlook.

Configure Zoom Meeting
Configure Zoom Meeting

Step 4: Now click on the Save button to schedule the new Zoom meeting.

Now a new pop-up box will appear showing the Zoom meeting link, ID and passcode. Note them down and share the link with everyone.

Here comes the main trick.

As soon as the meeting nears 40 minutes, a countdown clock will appear inside the meeting window. Now the Host needs to click on the Leave Meeting button before the session gets ended automatically. Make sure not to click on the End for All button but click on the Leave Meeting.

Now click on the same joining link again, and a new 40 minutes session will start. Repeat the same steps every 40 minutes, and you can continue the meeting for any amount of time.

Do note that this method only works with Zoom clients on Windows and macOS. It is not supported by any other versions of Zoom, including the web version.

This might feel a bit inconvenient at first, but this is the only option to bypass the 40 minutes limit on Zoom.

Other Options to Get Rid of 40 Minutes Limit

For some reason, if you do not want to follow the steps mentioned above, then the only other option is to subscribe to any of Zoom’s premium plans. The cheapest Zoom plan starts at $14.99 a month and lets you host a meeting with more than 100 participants and up to 24 hours duration.

You also have the option to use other Zoom alternatives as well. If you are not interested in using Zoom, there are plenty of other services that let us do free video conferences. Below, you will find the list of some services that you can use right now.

  • Google Meet
  • Microsoft Teams
  • GoToMeeting

Some of the Zoom alternatives mentioned above are better when it comes to the free version. For example, the free version of Google Meet lets you host a meeting for up to 60 minutes, 20 minutes more than Zoom’s offering.

Lift 40 Minutes Limit from Free Basic Zoom Account

If you run a school affected terribly by the Coronavirus, then Zoom will temporarily lift the 40 minutes limit on the free Basic accounts. For this, all you have to do is fill the verification form, and if eligible, the Zoom team will lift the 40 minutes limit from your account for some time. Until then, you may host meetings for more than 40 minutes without any limitation.

Also see how to raise your hand in Zoom and our guide on recording zoom meetings easily.

Host Zoom Meetings for Unlimited Duration

Using the method mentioned above, you can theoretically host a meeting for any amount of time of your choice. You can do the steps mentioned every 40 minutes and extend the meeting time by 40 minutes. This way, you will be able to host a meeting without any limit in the free account itself.

This method only works with the Zoom client on Windows and Mac. If you use any other versions of Zoom, then this method will not work for you.

Zoom is currently the most used online video conferencing service out there. Zoom has seen a sudden surge in the number of users during the pandemic time. Millions of people all around the globe use Zoom for doing business related video conferences, online classes and more.

Did you know that you can watch your favourite Netflix show with friends using Zoom? Well, in this article, let’s see how to watch movies together with your friends over a Zoom meeting. Only the host needs access to Netflix, and all other participants can watch it for free without having a Netflix subscription. How cool is that?

Zoom comes with a lot of features to make our video calling/conference experience excellent. One such feature is the screen sharing option. With the help of the screen sharing feature on Zoom, you can watch Netflix shows and shows from other streaming providers like Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, Disney, etc.

Watch Netflix on Zoom

How to Watch Movies on Zoom Together?

You may follow the guide given below to stream and share Netflix content via Zoom. With the free version of Zoom, you can add up to 100 people to the meeting and watch the Netflix show.

Do note that the free version of Zoom only allows meetings for a maximum time of 40 minutes. The session will end automatically once it hit 40 minutes. If you want to get rid of this limit, you need to subscribe to one of Zoom’s premium plans.

Or if you don’t want to subscribe to Zoom premium just for the sake of watching a bunch of Netflix shows, here is an excellent way to bypass the 40 minute limit on Zoom. This will let you watch Netflix movies or shows indefinitely without any time limit.

Here’s everything you will need to stream and watch Netflix shows or movies together with your friends over Zoom:

  • High-speed internet connection
  • Zoom client installed on your computer
  • Netflix subscription (Zoom host)

Now that you have some basic idea about the whole setup let’s see how to watch movies together in Zoom.

Step 1: First of all, open the Zoom client and create a new meeting. Share the invite link with your friends with whom you would like to watch the show. (If you haven’t installed Zoom client on your device yet, you can get it from their official website. It is available for Android, iOS, Windows, macOS, Web and more)

Step 2: Open a web browser like Google Chrome and log in to Netflix. Search for the movie or show that you would like to watch with your friends. Start the show and then pause it.

Step 3: Now, head back to the Zoom app and ensure all your friends have joined the meeting. Click on the Share Screen button from the options available at the bottom of the screen.

Share Screen on Zoom

Step 4: A new window will appear showing all the active softwares on your device. If you are playing the movie on Netflix via a web browser, select that browser window. Or, if you are locally playing the video using a media player like VLC, click on that.

Select Netflix Window
Select Netflix Window

Also, make sure to enable both ‘Share computer sound‘ and ‘Optimize Screen Share for Video Clip‘ options.

Enable Computer Sound
Enable Computer Sound

Step 5: Once configured, click on the Share button to start streaming the movie directly to Zoom.

You have successfully shared a Netflix movie or show directly to Zoom. Anyone who has joined the meeting will be able to see the show with other people. You can even talk or send text messages as well.

Make sure that you do not change the window or do any other activity. As it is screen sharing, anything that happens on your screen will be shared with the whole meeting. So, do keep that in mind.

Suppose you do not want to use browser extensions like Teleparty to watch Netflix together because you are not sure about your privacy. In that case, this is one method that you can follow to watch Netflix together with your friends using Zoom. We have already shared an article on Is Teleparty Safe?

Also see our guide on recording Zoom meeting without the permission of host as well.

What All Servies Does Zoom Support?

Not just Netflix, you can watch movies or shows from pretty much any website on Zoom.

Zoom supports online movie/shows streaming websites like:

  • Amazon Prime
  • Hulu
  • Disney
  • YouTube
  • etc

Long story short, it doesn’t matter from which website you are streaming the content; zoom supports all of them.

We are using the screen sharing option in Zoom. Screen Sharing allows us to share our screen with the meeting. Just play the movie while you are sharing the screen, and all the conference members will see the film too.

Solution to Possible Black Screen Issue on Zoom

While streaming a movie or show on Zoom, if you face black screen error then here is a simple fix to the same.

All you have to do is just go Zoom Settings and select Video option from the left sidebar.

From here, make sure to disable the option called “Enable hardware acceleration for video processing

Disable Hardware Acceleration on Zoom
Disable Hardware Acceleration on Zoom

This should solve the issues relating to black screen on Zoom.

A solution to Fix Stuttering Issue While Watching Movies on Zoom

Double-check that you have enabled the option called “Optimize Screen Share for video clip“. This option will help you to reduce the stuttering or stuck issue to a great extend. If you have already started sharing the screen without enabling this option, click on the Screen Share button again and allow the same.

Also, make sure that you have a high-speed internet connection. As you are the one who is streaming the content, your Internet speed is what matters. If you have low Internet speed, you may ask other friends with higher Internet speed to stream content. This should solve the issue for everyone at the meeting.

FAQ on Watching Netflix on Zoom

Do I need Zoom Premium to share Netflix with the meeting?

No, even the free version works without any issue. The only thing is that the meeting time is capped at 40 minutes in the free version. Make sure to follow the trick to bypass 40 minutes limit on Zoom.

Does it support other websites like Prime, Hulu, etc?

Yes. Not just Netflix, you can directly stream content from any website like Hulu, Prime videos, YouTube, etc watch the same with your friends.

Stream Netflix via Zoom

This guide will be something new for a lot of people. The fact is that not many people are aware of this trick to stream Netflix movies or Netflix shows directly on Zoom. This way, even people without a Netflix subscription will be able to watch the content. Furthermore, you could communicate with your friends as well.

Also, make sure to check out websites that will help you to watch shows together. You can host a watch party and invite your friends. Most of the websites support both audio-based and text messaging options as well.

Zoom has gained massive interest in the last few months. This is mainly due to the pandemic situations going on all around the globe. A lot of schools, colleges, and other educational institutions conduct online classes and many companies conduct online meetings via apps like Zoom, Google Meet, etc.

Zoom comes with the option to record the session natively. But in order to use this feature, you should have permission from the host. If the host has not enabled this option or blocked users from recording the video conference, then we won’t be able to record zoom calls from the app itself.

If this is the case, then we want to use some third-party tools like screen recorders to record Zoom meetings and Zoom calls. In this article, let’s see some methods to record Zoom meetings on PC including Windows, macOS and Linux, Android, and iOS.

Record Zoom Meetings without permission

Record Zoom Meeting without Attending and Host Permission

This is by far the coolest and easiest method to record a Zoom call. This method can be used on any device including your smartphone or PC. And the best part, you are not required to attend the meeting at all.

For this, we are using a website called Zoomcorder. Basically, this website lets us record Zoom calls, and that too, without even having the need to join a meeting.

  • Visit Zoomcorder.com
  • Click on the Record Meeting button, it will open a pop-up window asking you to authenticate with Google. All the recorded meeting files are saved to Google Drive.
Record Meeting Zoomcorder

  • After that’s done, next, you need to enter the Meeting URL/ID, the Passcode, Date, and Time. Once you have entered all these details, you are good to go.
Enter Meeting Details
Enter Meeting Details

(Clicking on the Advanced button will let you add a display picture, your name, etc. So, even if you are not attending the meeting, other people at the meeting will think you are there. This is completely optional)

  • Once the recording is completed, all you have to do is, just head over to the Recordings section of Zoomcorder and you will find the list of all saved videos there.

  • Clicking on the link will open the video on Google Drive.

As the recorded meeting is saved on Google Drive, you can access them from any device. You can also download them from Google Drive and store them locally as well. This is an easy way to record Zoom meetings without using any software.

How to Record Zoom Meetings on PC

At first, let’s see how to record Zoom Meetings on a PC. For this, we are using a screen recorder. There are a handful of screen recorders available for Windows, macOS, and Linux. It ranges from free to paid.

You can use any screen recorder of your choice. Below given are some screen recorders for PC that you can try:

  • Camtasia – Paid
  • Windows Gamebar – Free
  • CamStudio – Free
  • OBS Studio – Free

In my case, I already have Camtasia installed on my computer. So, let’s see how to record Zoom meetings. You may use any free screen recorders as well.

Step 1: First of all, download and install any screen recorder of your choice. There are multiple free and paid ones to choose from. Once installed, go ahead and install the same on your computer.

Step 2: Now open the Zoom meeting on a web browser or on the Zoom app for PC. Soon after you enter the meeting, follow the steps give below.

Step 3: Open the screen recorder software and click on the record button. Select the proper video, audio, and mic source as well.

Make sure not to use the computer while recording is in progress. You cannot minimize the window either. If you are having a multi-monitor setup then you can shift the Zoom meeting window to a different screen and record that screen only. Almost all leading screen recorders come with the option to record a specific display only.

Step 4: Once the meeting is over or the part that you want to record is completed, click on the Stop button. This will stop the zoom call recording. Depending on the software you use, an option to either save the file or do basic editing will popup.

In Camtasia, the recorded video will be opened in Camtasia Editor and you can do some editing as well. Once done, click on the export button to save it as a video file like MP4, AVI, etc.

This is how we record Zoom meetings on PC without permission from the host. If you want to record Zoom meetings on other devices, then follow the methods mentioned below.

Record Zoom Calls on a Smartphone

Similar to Windows or macOS, a ton of screen recorders are available for Android and iOS as well. Some smartphones even come with some sort of screen recorders pre-installed on the device too.

Step 2: Once found, install and open the Screen Recorder app.

Step 3: Now, open the Zoom app or meeting on a web browser. Use the passcode, ID, etc to join the meeting. Once you have entered the meeting, come back to the app and tap on the Record button.

Zoom is one of the most used online video conferencing services out there. It is available as a web version, desktop application, and mobile app as well. During a meeting, there are times when you want to tell something, but in most cases, the host might have muted all other participants. Since it is a virtual meeting you can’t do anything physically to grab the host’s attention.

To solve this problem, Zoom has a feature called “Raise hand”. This option in Zoom will let you virtually raise your hand and the host will get notified about the same. So he/she can give you the chance to speak or present what you have to tell.
