So you want to set the alarm and enable Do Not Disturb (DND) mode.

You might wonder if your alarm will go off in do not disturb mode.

I turned on Do Not Disturb mode on my iPhone 14 Pro, Samsung S22 Ultra, and a bunch of Android devices and set an Alarm to see if it would ring. Below are my findings.

As you all know, do not disturb mode, or DND, is a mode on your smartphone that will restrict notifications and sounds. Once enabled, you may entirely focus on your work so your phone won’t disturb you.

Whether it be a notification from Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, or any other app, if DND mode is enabled, they won’t pop up on your phone screen. Even if you have enabled notification sound, no sound will ring on your phone either.

This brings us to the question of whether my alarm go off on do not disturb mode.

This article will explain how an alarm works when the do not disturb mode is enabled on your iPhone or Android device. You will also find the guide to making the alarm ring even when DND is turned on.

Will My Alarm Go Off On Do Not Disturb?

Yes. Your alarm will go off when do not disturb mode is turned on on your phone. But notifications from apps, messages, and calls won’t make it when DND mode is turned on. The user manually sets the alarm to wake up or keep track of something, so it needs to ring even when DND is turned on.

Will Alarm Go Off On DND Mode

The reason why the do not disturb mode exist is to let people focus on work or sleep. Once the DND mode is turned on, notifications won’t make any sound on your smartphone. Furthermore, the notification won’t even appear on your notifications panel. You will have to unlock your smartphone and disable the DND mode to view the notifications.

But it is to be noted that every phone setting might not be configured the same way. For example, the DND mode on some devices may restrict alarm by default. You will have to go to the DND settings and let the alarm ring when DND is turned on.

Will My Alarm Go Off On Do Not Disturb iPhone?

The alarm will default go off on do not disturb mode on iPhones. iPhone allows users to let certain apps show notifications even when the do not disturb mode is turned on. You have to go to iPhone Settings > Focus > Do Not Disturb and edit the configurations according to your preference.

Another thing to note is that the do not disturb option will only restrict notifications, calls, and messages on your iPhone if the DND mode is turned on and your phone is locked.

DND mode Enabled

If you unlock your device, notifications and messages or calls will still appear even if the do not disturb mode is enabled.

Will My Alarm Go Off On Do Not Disturb Samsung?

Your alarm will still go off if do not disturb mode is enabled on Samsung devices. The user manually sets alarms to remind them of something. It has more priority than anything else. The DND mode only suppresses unwanted notifications that might affect your productivity or sleep.

If you head to your Samsung device’s DND settings, you can set certain apps to bypass DND, still, show notifications, and make sounds.

Similar is the case with all leading Android smartphone manufacturers. It doesn’t matter what OS or version it is, the alarm will still ring even if the DND mode is turned on.

How to Make Alarm Go Off On Do Not Disturb Mode

To make the alarm bypass the do not disturb mode, you need to go to your device settings and configure the DND mode to let the alarm ring. The setting may differ from device to device and Android or iPhone.

Follow the steps below to learn how to make an alarm ring even when do not disturb mode is enabled.

Make Alarm Ring on iPhone When DND is Turned On

If you set the alarm using the default clock app on your iPhone, then you do not need to configure anything. The DND mode on your iPhone does not suppress the clock app, which is where you will set the alarm.

But if you use third-party alarm apps with advanced controls, you may follow the steps below to allow it on DND mode.

Open Settings.

Tap Focus.

iPhone Focus Settings

Select Do Not Disturb.

Select Do Not Disturb.

Tap the Apps option.

Tap the Add button to whitelist any app installed on your iPhone.

add apps to dnd mode

As soon as you tap the + button, a list of all apps installed on your iPhone will appear. Go through the list and select the alarm app or search for it using the search bar at the top.

add apps to do not disturb mode

Now onwards, the DND mode will not be applicable to the particular alarm app you selected.

select apps

Next time the alarm goes off, it will ring even when the DND mode is turned on on your iPhone.

Make Alarm Ring on Android When DND is Turned On

The option to let the Alarm bypass the DND mode is available on Android devices, too.

By default, DND mode is not applicable to the alarm from the clock app on your Android device.

If you use a third-party app to set and manage Alarms, follow the steps below to whitelist it from DND mode.

The option to edit do not disturb mode settings is the same across all iPhones. But when it comes to the Android side of things, the do not disturb settings differ depending on the smartphone manufacturer and the Android skin you are using.

Generally, you should find the do not disturb options under Settings. Once you enter the do not disturb settings, you should be able to configure things like scheduling, the option to whitelist apps, and more.

Go to the apps whitelist option and select your alarm app of choice. Once whitelisted, next time onwards, the alarm will go off even when the do not disturb mode is turned on.

My Alarm Didn’t Ring on DND Mode

Some people complain that the alarm didn’t go off in DND mode. By default, the Alarm on your smartphone will ring even when the do not disturb mode is enabled.

But for some reason, if the alarm didn’t go off on DND mode, follow the troubleshooting guide to find out why and fix it fast.

Increase Alarm Volume

The common reason the alarm didn’t go off when on DND mode is that you set the volume too low. As you may already know, you can adjust the volume of the alarm. If it is set too low, you will find it difficult to hear the alarm,

So all you need to do is head to your alarm settings and increase the volume to the highest. Or set it to a level where you can hear it without struggle.

On your iPhone, open Settings.

Tap Sound & Haptics.

Adjust the RINGTOM AND ALERT VOLUME Slider. You should set it to a level where you can comfortably hear the alarm sound.

Next time onwards, when the alarm rings on DND mode, you should be able to hear it since we have increased the volume.

On your Android device, press the Volume button to bring the slider. Select the Alarm option and increase the volume level.

Change The Alarm App

Even after following all the troubleshooting steps above, if none helped you fix the alarm not ringing on DND mode problem, the next thing to do is to change the alarm app.

Most of you will use the default Clock app on your smartphone to set the alarm.

Did you know that there are tons of third-party alarm apps that you can download from the App Store and Play Store? These apps have advanced features to set the alarm, track your sleep, and more.

Below are a few alarm apps for Android and iOS devices.

On the other hand, if you have been using a third-party alarm app on your smartphone, but it didn’t ring on DND mode, then I recommend you use the default alarm app.

At times, third-party alarm apps fail to work when the DND mode is turned on. If that is the case, you may use the default app.

Open the Clock app, move to the alarm section, and set your alarm. The alarm should ring fine even when the DND mode is turned on.

Incorrect Alarm Settings

Every time you set a new alarm, you need to double-check it to make sure the timing is correct and, more importantly, AM or PM is selected properly.

I have made this mistake countless times. I accidentally set the alarm for AM when I needed it in PM and vice versa.

If you incorrectly set the alarm on your iPhone or Android device, it will fail to ring, and it has nothing to do with whether the do not disturb mode was turned on or off.

Every time you are about to set a new alarm, make sure you double-check whether it is AM or PM.

Also, if you set the alarm in 24 hours format, ensure the timing is correct.

You Were Asleep

Another funny reason you might have missed the alarm is that you turned it off while asleep, but you don’t remember.

Alarms are annoying. I know many people who set three or four alarms in five minutes intervals to wake up.

Many people tend to turn off the alarm as soon as it goes off, and when they wake up after an hour, they don’t realize the mistake they made because they were asleep.

Chances are, your alarm went off as it should, and you turned it off. But you can’t remember it because you were asleep.

The simple solution to not let this happen in the future is to keep your phone far away from your bed so that you need to wake up to turn it off.

Every alarm ring for multiple times until they are manually turned off. Since you cannot reach the phone from your bed, you will definitely have to wake up, walk to the phone, and then disable the alarm.

By the time you grab your phone, 50 percent of your sleep will be lost already. This is an easy way to never miss an alarm again.

Ensure The Alarm App Is Whitelisted on DND Settings

Many people use apps from Play Store or App Store to set alarms. The default app on your smartphone is very basic when it comes to features and custom configurations. If you want more advanced options, you should use third-party apps.

That do not disturb mode will only let the default alarm app bypass it. If you use a third-party alarm app to set the alarm and don’t whitelist it on the DND settings, it will not ring.

So all you need to do is go to Settings > Focus > Do Not Disturb.

Tap the Plus button under the apps section and select the alarm app.

add apps to dnd whitelist

Do the same thing on your Android device.

Once you whitelist the app on DND mode, next time onwards, it should ring even when the do not disturb mode is turned on.

Restart The Phone

Sometimes technical glitches may cause the alarm not to ring. It might have nothing to do with the DND mode. To fix this, all you need to do is restart your smartphone.

Restarting your device will help you get rid of technical glitches and bugs that might make the alarm not ring.

Press and hold your power button and tap Restart. Set the alarm when it turns on, enable DND mode, and see if it rings this time.

Restarting your device should help you fix various problems like this.

Wrapping Up

Alarms are super important, and the number one reason why people set alarms is not to forget something or wake up on time. They do not want to receive any notifications from apps or messages from friends. But want the alarm to ring to get the job done.

So there is no point in blocking the alarm in the DND mode. For the same reason, smartphone manufacturers do not block alarms on DND mode.

In short, the alarm will go off even when the DND mode is turned on on your iPhone or Samsung, or any other Android device.

But if you use a third-party application to set the alarm, you need to head to the Do Not Disturb mode settings and whitelist that specific app so the alarm can ring even when the DND mode is turned on.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Do Not Disturb Block Alarm?

The Do Not Disturb (DND) mode does not block alarms. Even when the DND mode is enabled, the Alarm will still ring. Alarms are important as they help people to remind themselves of something. So it is important to let it pass through DND mode. But calls, messages, and app notifications will be blocked on DND mode.

Why Did My Alarm Not Go Off On DND Mode?

In most cases, the alarm should ring even when the do not disturb mode is turned on. If the alarm didn’t ring for some reason, you must check the alarm settings, volume, etc., to make sure they ring otherwise. Restarting your smartphone once should help.

iPhone battery draining while charging is now a common problem many people face. There are several reasons why it happens. This can be very frustrating, and it will take longer to fully charge your smartphone.

If you are looking for a working solution to fix the phone battery going down while charging, you have to come to the right place. Below are some proven things to do when your phone drains while charging.

The problem can be with your smartphone, the power brick, or even the charging cable.

First, let’s see why

Why My iPhone Battery Is Going Down While Charging

Your phone battery percentage is going down while charging because the power brick is faulty, the cable is damaged, battery health is low, problems with the wall socket, or high battery usage apps are running in the background.

Let’s take a detailed look at some common reasons why your iPhone battery is going down while charging.

Fix Phone Battery Draining While Charging

Faulty Power Adaptor

A faulty power adapter might be the culprit that is causing your phone battery to drain even when it is charging. A defective power adapter will fail to charge your device correctly.

And the good news is that it is straightforward to find out if the problem is with the power adapter.

So all you have to do is disconnect your smartphone from the power adapter, connect it to another device, and see if it charges without any problem.

Also, observe how long it takes to charge the device. Now see if it is taking longer than usual. If yes, you can know that something is wrong with the power brick.

Or if the power adapter was able to charge your other device without any problem, then the issue must be with your device or the power cable.

If your smartphone charger is still under warranty, you may get it replaced free of cost.

Most power adapters that come inside the smartphone box have six-month warranty. If it’s been less than six months since you bought the power brick, you may get in touch with the nearest authorized service center or store and get it repaired or replaced.

In most cases, there is nothing repairable inside a power brick, so they will give you a new one instead.

Damaged Cable

Even if the power adapter is working, your iPhone won’t charge as expected if the cable fails to work correctly. Your smartphone will lose charge even when it is connected to the charger.

It is through the power cable that the charging brick sends power to your smartphone. You should always use a high-quality and original data cable to charge your smartphone.

Faulty Cable

Firstly, start by inspecting the cable for any visible damage. This may include natural wear and tear or cracks that make it not to charge the phone properly.

You should use original or manufacturer-certified cables for charging your device. Similar to the charging adapter, the charging speed also depends on the cable you use.

Try using the same charging cable, charge a different device, and see if it charges without any problem. You may connect it to the same power adapter or use a different one to isolate the problem.

If the charging cable fails, you must buy a new one. No charging cable comes with a warranty of any sort. So you’re forced to get a new one or use a different cable lying in your house.

Ensure The Charging Port Is Clean

Once you are sure that both your power adapter and the power cable are working without any problem, next is to inspect the charging port on your smartphone to see if it has dirt or dust, making it not to charge.

Over time, a lot of dust particles will accumulate inside your smartphone’s charging port. It will block the power from the charging cable from reaching the battery or the circuit.

Take a flashlight and direct it to the charging port of your smartphone. Closely examine to see if there are dust and dirt inside.

Clean The Charging Port

You may use a small toothpick or needle to remove the dirt particles from the port gently. Once the port is free of dust or dirt particles, try connecting the charger and see if you can charge your phone without any problem.

You should be extra cautious when cleaning the charging port. The internals inside could damage very easily if not cleaned properly.

Cleaning the charging port once in a while is recommended.

Wireless Charger Problems

If you use a wireless charger to charge your smartphone, below are some common reasons and fixes to get rid of iPhone battery percentage going down when charging.

Thick Case

If your smartphone case/back cover is too thick, then it will not let your smartphone wirelessly charge.

The coil on the wireless charger and your smartphone should come in contact to wirelessly charge it. If your smartphone case is too thick, the charger won’t be able to charge your device wirelessly.

To see if the problem is with your smart iPhone case, remove it and then place your smartphone on the wireless charging pad. Now see if it charges without any problem.

If it charges, the issue is with your smartphone case, and you need to get a different one that supports wireless charging.

If you are an iPhone user, getting a MagSafe-compatible charger will be a better option since it supports high-speed wireless charging.

Damaged Wireless Charging Pad

If your wireless charging pad isn’t working correctly, it will fail to charge your iPhone. Try placing other devices like a smartwatch or smartphone on the wireless charging pad and see if they charge without any problem.

If they don’t charge, there is something wrong with the wireless charging pad. If your wireless charger is still under warranty, get in touch with your device manufacturer to get it replaced or repaired.

Faulty Wireless Charger Adapter or Cable

Like traditional wired chargers, wireless chargers come with a power adapter and power cable. The power cable connects the power brick and the wireless charging pad.

So ensure both the adapter and the cable is working without any problem.

Wall Outlet Problems

The problem might not always be with the charger or smartphone. It can be with your wall power socket as well.

If the power socket fails to send electricity to the power adapter, it won’t be able to charge your device. Faulty wiring or damaged wall socket are some of the common reasons why the wall outlet fails.

Try connecting a different charger or device to the wall outlet and see if it powers up without any problem.

If your wall socket is faulty, contact an electrician to get it repaired.

Extension Cord Problems

If you use an extension cord to connect your charger, the problem can also be with your extension cord.

Remove the charger and connect it directly to the wall socket to see if the problem is with the extension cord. Connect your smartphone to the charger and see if it charges the device.

Use The Original or Apple Certified Charger

You might have seen all device manufacturers recommending you to use original or manufacture-certified chargers. Using low-quality chargers will do more harm than good. You may get it cheaper, but you are damaging your device in the long run.

If you are using a cheap, low-quality power adapter to charge your device, it’s time to get a new one.

For example, if you are an Apple iPhone user, get the original Apple iPhone charger or some other Apple-certified third-party chargers from brands like Logitech, Anker, or Belkin.

You should also keep an eye on the charger’s watt. If you use a significantly low watt charger to charge your device, it will fail to power it up.

Get a charger that meets your smartphone’s minimum charging requirements. If you are unsure about it, refer to the owner’s manual or the official website to find more info.

Apps Draining Charge

Numerous resource-hungry apps are running in the background, draining your iPhone’s charge. If you have a ton of them opened in the background, then it’s evident that your phone will lose charge even if it is charging.

Before you connect your smartphone to charge, open the recent apps section and clear all apps running in the background.

On your iPhone, swipe from the bottom and hold at the middle to reveal all recent apps. Swipe each app to the top to completely force close it.

Similarly, open the screen time settings of your iPhone and see which app drains most battery.

Go to Settings > Battery and scroll down to find the complete list of apps installed on your iPhone and the battery usage.

Battery Draining Apps

Go through the list and find the apps with the most background battery usage. If some apps use heavy battery even when running in the background, you should consider disabling the permission to run in the background.

Check Your iPhone Battery Health

Over time, iPhone batteries lose their capacity. If you have been using the same smartphone for some time now, the battery health must have dropped quite a lot.

Not just iPhones, every smartphone’s battery loses its capacity gradually. At a certain point, it won’t even last a day.

It can be a reason why your phone loses charge when charging.

Now you might wonder how I can know if my battery capacity has significantly lowered. Well, you have that option on your iPhone. It’s called Battery Health.

The battery health option on the iPhone shows you how much percentage of the capacity is left out of a hundred.

Let’s see how to see your iPhone battery health:

  • Open Settings
  • Tap Battery
  • Tap Battery Health
iPhone Battery Health

It will show you the capacity in percentage terms. If it is significantly lower, like something below 70, then you must get it replaced.

If you have an Apple Care Plus plan, you may get it replaced for free of cost.

Restart Your Phone

It might sound silly, but it’s worth giving it a shot. If software glitches or bugs are causing issues with charging your iPhone then it can be solved with a simple restart.

Hold the power button and slide it to power off your device. Now turn it back on again and see if you can charge your device again without any problem.

Many people have managed to fix certain issues with their iPhones by simply restarting them. There’s nothing to lose, so go ahead and give it a shot.

Update Your Phone’s OS

Do you know that updating your device will help reduce battery consumption? With each Update, the company tries to make it as power efficient as possible.

If it’s been a while since you updated your smartphone OS, it’s time to update it to increase battery life.

See the guide below to update your Android or iOS device.

Update iOS:

  • Open Settings
  • Tap General
  • Tap Software update
  • Wait for a few seconds to see if any new update is available
  • Update the Download and install button
Update iOS

Depending on the update file size, downloading the file will take some time. Patiently wait till the Update is done.

Update Android:

  • Open Settings
  • Tap About
  • Tap System
  • Tap Software Update and see if a new update is available
  • Tap the Update now button to install the new Update

You may go through the update changelog to see if the device manufacturers have included some battery or charging-related inclusions.

Faulty Charging Port

If cleaning the charging port didn’t help you fix the problem, it must be most likely due to a faulty charging port. Often, many people end up with a defective charging port that needs to be repaired.

We all connect chargers multiple times a day. For the same reason charging port is a part that tends to run into a problem quite a lot. If your charging port is faulty, you will have to take your smartphone to an Apple-authorized service center and repair it.

To confirm if the problem is really with the charging port, you need to connect a different charger and see if you’re able to charge your device. If it charges your device without any problem, then you can confirm something is wrong with the charging port.

Similarly, if your phone supports wireless charging, you may place it on top of a wireless charging pad and see if it also charges.

Take Your iPhone To An Apple Service Center

If none of the tips above help you fix the battery draining while charging problem, then it’s finally time to get in touch with an Apple service center to repair your device.

Start by contacting an Apple service specialist by following the link given below.

Contact Apple Support

Now take your iPhone to the nearest Apple authorized service center.

If your iPhone is still under warranty or the Apple Care Plus plan, you get your device repaired for free. In some cases, they may even replace your iPhone for free.

Android Phone Battery Going Down While Charging

If you think the problem is just with iPhones, you are wrong. Android users also face this issue where the battery percentage goes down significantly when they charge the device.

The reason why this happens on Android is pretty similar to iPhones. Aged batteries, faulty power brick or power cable, low battery health, faulty charging port, etc. are some of the reasons your Android phone’s battery percentage goes down when charging.

If your Android smartphone has a pending update, it is recommended that you update it ASAP. New updates come with new features and bug fixes. Maybe your smartphone manufacturer has included a new update that should solve battery-draining issues. You may check for it on the changelog.

Conclusion

Faulty power brick or charging cable, thick phone back cover, pending updates, dirt, dust on the charging port, faulty charging port, etc. are a few reasons your iPhone’s battery is draining while charging.

Sure, it is a strange issue for most of the users. There are several reasons why this happens. You must go through every single one to find and isolate the problem.

Let’s quickly go through what we did to fix a phone/iPhone that drains the battery while charging.

  • Check the power brick and charging cable.
  • Remove the case before wirelessly charging the device
  • Clean the charging port
  • Update your smartphone to the latest version
  • Try a different set of charger
  • Faulty charging port
  • Take your phone to a nearest Apple service center

It’s official! You can now enable to show the battery percentage in the battery icon on your iPhone (iOS 16).

If you have been an iPhone user for some time now, you might already know that Apple stopped showing the battery percentage readily on the status bar. With the introduction of the iPhone X came the notch. Since the notch took a good real estate of the entire status bar, Apple couldn’t incorporate the battery percentage on the status bar.

show battery percentage on iphone

Similar has been the case with all the subsequent models, including iPhone 11, 12, and 13 series.

But with the introduction of iOS 16, Apple has brought back that feature where you can enable and view battery percentage inside the battery icon on the status bar.

So, let’s see how.

Supported Devices

Below is the list of all iPhones eligible for this update. See if your iPhone is on the list and if yes, follow the guide given below to show the battery percentage on the iPhone status bar.

  • iPhone X
  • iPhone XS
  • iPhone XS Max
  • iPhone 11 Pro
  • iPhone 11 Pro Max
  • iPhone 12
  • iPhone 12 Pro
  • iPhone 12 Pro Mac
  • iPhone 13
  • iPhone 13 Pro
  • iPhone 13 Pro Max

The option to show battery percentage is available on iOS 16 dev beta five and above. So, ensure you have already updated your iPhone to the latest version.

How to Enable Battery Percentage on iPhone (iOS 16)?

To enable battery percentage on iPhone, head to Settings, scroll down and tap on Battery. Enable the toggle that says ‘Battery Percentage.’ You have successfully enabled battery percentage on the battery icon on your iPhone.

Firstly, head over to your iPhone’s settings page.

Scroll down and find the option “Battery“. Tap on the option to reveal more battery settings.

Up top, you’ll find a new toggle that says ‘Battery Percentage.’ All you have to do is turn on the toggle.

enable battery percentage

Once enabled, you’ll notice that your iPhone will now display the battery percentage inside the battery icon on the top right corner of the screen.

 battery percentage on ios 16

Remember that if you enable the battery percentage option on your iPhone, it will no longer show the visual battery level. Only the percentage will be displayed all the time.

Suppose you are using your iPhone in light mode. In that case, you’ll find the battery percentage in white color on the black battery icon, or if you are using dark mode, the battery icon will appear in white with the battery percentage marked in white.

Next time onwards, when you charge your iPhone with the battery percentage enabled, you will find a new charging indicator next to the battery percentage inside the battery icon in the top right corner.

How to Disable Battery Percentage on iPhone?

If you don’t want the battery percentage to show all the time on your iPhone, then you may choose to disable the same.

To disable the battery percentage indicator on iPhone, you must open settings and click on the option ‘Battery.’

Disable the toggle that says ‘Battery Percentage.’

Once you disable the toggle, you will no longer find the battery percentage inside the battery icon in the top right corner of the screen. The old visual indicator of battery percentage will be back.

Wrap Up

A lot of people found it annoying when Apple remove the option where it shows the battery percentage. But Apple has finally listened to its users and brought the feature back. Now you can choose whether to always display the battery percentage indicator on the screen.

Let’s quickly recap what we did to enable or disable battery percentage on iPhone with iOS 16 Dev beta five or above:

  • Go to Settings
  • Tap on the ‘Battery’ option
  • Enable the toggle which says ‘Battery Percentage.’

If you feel like removing the battery percentage from your iPhone in the future, head to the same page and disable the toggle.

Before we move further, we need to understand two terms, MMI codes and USSD codes.

What is an MMI code?

MMI stands for Man-Machine-Interface. Simply put these are the codes that contain the star (*) and the asterisk(#) symbols.

They are many categories in MMI. Each category has its own set of purposes. All of these codes are mostly similar, so it is easy to get confused.

What are USSD codes, and how do you use them?

Every smartphone has its own network. There are always ways to communicate between the network and the device. This is where the USSD codes come into play. These codes can be used to get the system info, troubleshoot issues and more.

USSD stands for Unstructured Supplementary Service Data.

Top iPhone Secret Codes To Use

This article will show you some of the coolest iPhone hidden codes you should be aware of.

  1. *#06#: It will show you your iPhone’s IMEI number. It’s a unique identification for your phone’s hardware.
