Has someone in your family or friend group ever claimed they were at the library studying, when their Life360 dot showed they were across town at the movies?

As the popular family tracking app Life360 grows in use, tricks to fake locations are unfortunately becoming more commonplace as well. People spoof locations on Life360 for a variety of reasons, whether to hide where they really are, cover up stops they didn’t want family members to know about, or simply pull a prank.

In this guide, I’ll explore some of the main techniques people use to spoof Life360 locations, as well as tips to catch location spoofing in action.

Is it possible to fake Life360 location?

Yes, it is possible to fake your location on Life360.

There are various apps available for both Android and iPhone that allow you to manually enter a fake GPS location or choose a location on a map to spoof your actual location. Some examples include Fake GPS Location Spoofer, LocationFaker, and Mock Locations.

How to tell if someone is faking location on Life360?

Look for location jumps/data inconsistency

One of the biggest giveaways of location spoofing on Life360 is when you see jumps between two places that are very distant from one another, instead of showing the movement smoothly along a path.

Unless someone is beaming themselves around via a teleportation machine, physical travel from one place to another takes time and follows logical routes. So if the location changes don’t seem reasonable based on the time between updates and physical capability of actually covering that ground travel on foot or in a car, location spoofing could be to blame.

life360 location data

Keep an eye out for big, abrupt location shifts that skip over the routes in between. Check things like:

  • Jumping distances greater than what is physically possible in the time period
  • Illogical routes that couldn’t be traveled, like across a river with no bridges nearby
  • Moving faster than reasonable for the method of transportation

Verify locations through photo metadata

An effective strategy to cross-check a Life360 location is to ask the person to send an image or video that proves they are indeed in that area. However, simply looking at the picture background can still leave some room for spoofing.

A smart spoofer could easily download a stock photo or video from the internet and claim it’s their own.

So make sure to go a step further by checking the media metadata. Photos and videos captured on smartphones contain embedded geospatial metadata that includes exact GPS coordinates pinpointing where that image or video was captured.

You can visit https://jimpl.com/ and upload the photo to see the meta data.

view image metadata online

To check the metadata on iOS, access the photo details. On Macs, you can use the Preview app to view all image metadata including geographic location details. For Android and Windows, free metadata viewer apps can pull the GPS info from media.

The embedded lat/long coordinates and elevation can definitively confirm if the photo was indeed taken right where their Life360 dot claims they were standing. If the metadata locations differ vastly from the pinned locations on Life360, it confirms suspicious activity.

Scan their phone for spoofing apps

If you have the opportunity to directly access the mobile device of the person whose Life360 location seems suspicious, take the chance to dig deeper for evidence of location trickery apps.

Check if any fake GPS or VPN apps are installed which allow manual location input or teleporting the phone’s GPS. Common examples include Fake GPS Free, Mock Locations, Location Spoofer Free, etc. Many require root or jailbreak access to function.

You can also investigate by opening the device’s settings menu and checking if “Mock Locations” or “Spoof Locations” options appear, which may indicate an integrated spoof app. Developer options may also show ongoing location spoofing.

It’s also wise to verify if their phone has been rooted (Android) or jailbroken (iOS). Gaining this admin access allows otherwise restricted location spoofing apps to be downloaded and used.

Try having someone physically verify

If a Life360 location seems questionable and you know someone who lives or works near that spot, you can take the extra step to have them physically travel to visually confirm whether the person is actually there.

For example, if your child’s dot claims they are at their friend’s house across town studying, but you doubt that is the real location, you can request the friend’s parents to physically walk through their home and check if your child is present. Or if a family member’s location shows up at a restaurant you know well, ask a fellow local to swing by to validate they are on site.

Wrap Up

All thanks to GPS spoofing apps, it’s now easier than ever to fake your GPS location and trick Life360 and other parental or tracking apps on your Android or iOS device. Checking for location data inconsistency, finding the photo metadata etc. are a few working tips to confirm if someone is faking their location on the app.

Life360 is a popular family tracking app that allows users to view the real-time location of family members. It’s designed to give you peace of mind by letting you know where your loved ones are at any given moment.

However, many Life360 users have experienced issues with the app not updating locations in real-time as expected.

When Life360 stops refreshing, it can cause panic as you can no longer locate family members. This seems to be a common problem with no clear solution.

In this blog post, we’ll discuss some of the potential reasons why Life360 may not be updating properly and go over some troubleshooting tips to try and get it working again.

Why Life360 Location Won’t Update?

Here are some common reasons why Life360 may not update locations properly:

  • Poor cellular or WiFi connection: Life360 relies on an internet connection to update locations. If you have a weak signal or are connected to a slow/unreliable network, this can prevent timely updates.
  • GPS issues: The app uses your phone’s GPS to pinpoint locations. If GPS capabilities are disabled or malfunctioning on your phone, Life360 will struggle to find device locations.
  • Airplane mode enabled: With airplane mode on, all wireless connections are disabled, preventing Life360 from updating your location.
  • Background app refresh disabled: Life360 needs to run consistently in the background to update locations. If background app refresh is disabled, this prevents seamless updating.
  • Phone battery optimization. To preserve battery, some phones restrict background activity for apps like Life360. This can interfere with location updates.
  • Conflicts with other apps. In some cases, other apps like security software and VPNs can disrupt Life360 functionality.

At times, Life360 may show Last Updated 2 Hours Ago or Phone off or no network.

How To Fix Life360 Not Updating?

If your Life360 app is not updating its location, you need to ensure the location/GPS access is enabled and battery optimization settings is disabled. Double-check your hone have internet access, is not logged into multiple device, and update Life360 to latest version.

Ensure Location & GPS Access Is Enabled For Life360

The first thing to check is whether Life360 has permission to access the device’s location services. The app relies on GPS and other location data to keep tabs on where you and your family members are.

Go to your phone’s Settings > Privacy > Location Services. Make sure Location Services is switched on. Then scroll and check that Life360 has permission to access your location Always or While Using the App.

You may also need to verify under Privacy > Location Services > Share My Location that Life360 is enabled here as well.

While in Settings, also go to Privacy > GPS and confirm that GPS/Location accuracy is switched on.

On Android:

Go to Settings > Apps & notifications > Advanced > App permissions > Location. Make sure Life360 has access. Tap Location > Use precise location to enable.

Occasionally, location access gets disabled, so double-checking these settings may get Life360 updated again.

Make Sure The Internet Is Working

Since Life360 is cloud-based, it requires an internet connection to sync data and show real-time locations. Without a stable internet connection, the app can’t fetch the latest location data.

First, make sure your phone has cellular data enabled.

Go to Settings > Mobile Data and check it is switched on.

Also, ensure WiFi is enabled and connected to a network under Settings > WiFi. Test the connection speed to make sure it’s functioning well and not limited.

Try disabling WiFi and only using cellular data instead or vice versa. Toggle between the two to see if one provides better connectivity for Life360.

If you have no bars and are in a poor service area, this could explain why Life360 isn’t updating. Move to a location with a better signal.

Disable Airplane Mode

With Airplane Mode enabled, all wireless connectivity is disabled on your phone, meaning Life360 won’t work.

Go to Settings and make sure Airplane Mode is switched off.

Also, toggle it off within Control Center by swiping down from the top right of your iPhone.

Airplane Mode blocks GPS, cellular data, WiFi and Bluetooth – all key components Life360 requires to update locations.

Restart Your Phone

A simple restart can often fix problems with apps not functioning properly. Restarting clears out any software glitches and resets all systems.

On Android, press and hold the power button and tap the Restart button to resart your phone.

To restart an iPhone 8 or earlier, hold down the Side/Power button until the Slide to Power Off option appears. Swipe this option to turn off.

For iPhone X or later, hold the Side and Volume Up or Down buttons simultaneously until the shutdown slider pops up. Swipe to power off.

restart iphone

Leave the phone off for at least 30 seconds before pressing the Side/Power button again to restart it.

Android: Hold down the Power button until the Power off prompt appears. Tap Power off. Leave it off for 30 seconds minimum before pressing Power to restart.

Restart Your Phone

Once your phone has restarted, launch Life360 again to see if locations are updating accurately. A restart can reload the required phone processes for Life360 to work correctly.

Disable Battery Optimization Settings

To preserve battery life, iPhone includes battery optimization that can limit background activity for certain apps. Unfortunately, this can interfere with Life360 running properly in the background to update locations.

iPhone: Go to Settings > Battery > Battery Optimization and make sure Life360 is not selected. Tap it to disable battery optimization.

Android: Go to Settings > Apps & notifications > Advanced > Special app access > Battery optimization. Tap Life360 and select Don’t optimize > Done.

You can also enable unrestricted background app refreshing in your device settings. Disabling battery optimization gives Life360 the freedom to keep fetching location data.

Disabling battery optimization for Life360 can help you fix notifications not working issue as well.

Log Out If Logged In More Than One Device

Using Life360 simultaneously on multiple devices can sometimes disrupt the location services and cause updating problems.

Try logging out of the Life360 app on any secondary devices. Only remain logged in on your primary phone.

In the Life360 app, tap the Settings icon > Account > Log Out on any extra devices. This eliminates conflicts between devices that may interfere with locations syncing properly.

Disable VPN

Virtual private networks (VPNs) route your internet connection through alternative servers, thereby changing your IP address and location. This can confuse apps relying on your GPS coordinates like Life360.

Go to your device settings and toggle off any VPN connections that are enabled. You can re-enable the VPN when you are done using Life360 if needed.

Similarly, security apps and firewalls that alter network connections can also disrupt Life360 functionality in some instances. Try disabling these as well to narrow down if it helps.

Clear Life360 App Cache

Over time, corrupted app cache files, glitches and software bugs can accumulate and cause problems with Life360 updating locations accurately.

Clearing the Life360 app’s cached data forces it to start fresh which may resolve any software issues.

iPhone: Go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage. Tap Life360 and then tap Offload App to clear cached data. Then reinstall Life360 from the App Store.

Android: Go to Settings > Apps. Tap Life360 > Storage > Clear Cache. Alternatively, you can uninstall and reinstall the app to completely wipe data.

Update Life360 App

Staying updated with the latest version of the Life360 app ensures you have bug fixes, performance improvements and enhancements that may help with updating your location properly.

Go to the Google Play Store or App Store > Updates and check if Life360 needs updating. Install the latest version.

Also enable automatic updating for apps on your device. This will automatically update Life360 in the background whenever new versions are released.

An outdated Life360 app is more prone to location updating errors and assorted bugs that get addressed in-app updates.

Check Life360 Status Page

The DownDetector page of Life360 shows if the Life360 server is down.

is life360 down

Sometimes server outages can prevent Life360 from working properly across all users globally. Check the site for notifications of any acknowledged problems.

If the status page reports degraded performance or an outage, you’ll have to wait until Life360 engineers resolve the issue before location updating will work again.

What’s Next?

Life360 failing to update locations properly can certainly be alarming and frustrating. However, in most cases, it simply takes some focused troubleshooting to get the app connecting and updating as expected once again.

Start by double checking your device’s location and GPS settings, internet connectivity, app version, battery optimization configurations and more.

Work through each fix systematically to identify and resolve the specific issue disrupting Life360.

Keep an eye on the Life360 status page as well in case wider service disruptions are impacting the app. Addressing location errors promptly leads to greater peace of mind knowing your loved ones’ whereabouts.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why did Life360 suddenly stop updating location?

There are a few common reasons Life360 may stop refreshing locations: poor internet connection, disabled location services, software bugs, VPN usage, and service outages. Try the troubleshooting steps outlined to isolate the cause.

Why is my family member showing in the wrong location on Life360?

Occasional location inaccuracies can happen if GPS signals are weak or settings need adjustment. Try moving outdoors with a clear view of the sky and give it some time to calibrate for improved accuracy.

What happens if I log out of Life360 on my old phone?

Logging out on old devices can help if you are simultaneously running Life360 on multiple phones. This eliminates conflicts between devices that may disrupt location services. Your account and data will remain intact.

How do I stop Life360 from updating my location?

You can prevent Life360 from updating your location by disabling location access in your device settings or putting your phone in Airplane Mode. However, this will prevent you from viewing other family members’ locations as well. An alternative is to delete the Life360 app if you no longer wish to share locations.

Life360 app comes with a host of features that help you track the real-time location of everyone in a given circle.

Some options and features on the Life360 app can be confusing. One such thing that is confusing for many is ETA in Life360.

In this article, let’s discuss what ETA mean on life360 and other essential things you should know about Life360 ETA.

Life360 ETA Meaning

ETA on Life360 means Estimated Time of Arrival. It is a handy feature in Life360 that allows anyone to know the arrival time of a person part of a circle at a particular location.

Let’s understand ETA on Life360 with the help of an example.

Let’s say Bob and you are part of a Life360 circle.

Bob is coming home from his workplace. To find out when Bob will arrive home, you may open the Life360 app, select the circle and tap on the ETA option for Bob.

eta on life360

The ETA option will show you the approximate time Bob will be home.

ETA takes into account a lot of factors like the current speed of Bob, traffic conditions, and other GPS data to determine the same.

Do keep in mind that ETA feature will not work if Life360 app says last updated 2 hours ago, the phone is turned off or does not have network access, or if the ghost mode is enabled.

How Is ETA on Life360 Helpful?

The ETA or estimated time of arrival on Life360 helps you know the approximate time by which a person reaches a particular location. This feature will be extremely handy when you want to know the current location of a person and the time by which they will reach a particular location.

If you are a parent and your children go to school, you can know the time by when they will be back home in the evening by referring to the ETA section on the Life360 app.

How Does Life360 ETA Work?

A lot of you may wonder how exactly the ETA feature on Life360 work. How is the app able to know the estimated arrival time of a person?

Life360 uses a combination of data to conclude when a person will arrive at a particular destination and calculate the ETA.

The estimated time of arrival is calculated using the current GPS location of the person, the traffic condition, the speed at which their vehicle is traveling, and weather conditions like rain or snow, if any.

By processing all these above-mentioned data, Life360 calculates the ETA and displays the same in the Life360 app.

If your Life360 app is not sending notifications, here is a guide to fix the same.

Wrap Up

In short, the ETA on the Life360 app means the estimated time of arrival. ETA on Life360 lets you know when a person will reach a certain place and how long it will take.

This feature can be extremely helpful when you want to know when your kids, spouse or friends will reach their home or workplace.

Location access is mandatory for ETA on Life360 to work properly.

Life360 is the most popular real-time location-tracking app that helps people track their loved ones.

Many parents install the Life360 app on their children’s phones to get real-time location details.

At least for some people, Life360 intrude into their personal life, and they consider it a breach of privacy. They are afraid Life360 has access to their search history or personal files.

So many people plan to uninstall the Life360 app or delete their Life360 account.

But this leaves us with a question – what happens if you delete your Life360 app or account?

Let’s find in this article.

What Happens If You Delete or Uninstall Life360

If you delete or uninstall the Life360 app from your phone, the app will no longer have access to your real-time location. Other people in your circle will see your last recorded location, which will no longer be updated.

What Happens If You Delete or Uninstall Life360?

The Life360 apps make use of location services on your phone to track and send your real-time location. If the app is uninstalled, it will not have access to the location details.

Uninstalling Life360 will not delete your account. You can install the app and log in to your account anytime.

As the location details won’t update any longer, you can expect a call from your parents and ask why Life360 is not updating or if you have deleted the app. To trick the system, you may try the Life360 ghost mode.

In short, as soon as you uninstall or delete the Life360 app from your smartphone, your last location will be shown to others, and it won’t update anymore.

For some time, Life360 may even show No network or phone off status for a while.

Uninstalling the Life360 app from your smartphone and deleting the Life360 account altogether are two different things.

Let’s see what happens if you choose to delete your Life360 account.

What Happens If You Delete Life360 Account

Deleting your Life360 account will permanently delete all your account information, including location history, personal details, email, etc. Once the account is deleted, your account will disappear from all the Life360 circles that you’re part of.

If you uninstall the Life360 app from your smartphone, your account is not deleted, and all the details are still preserved on the Life360 server. On the other hand, if you delete your Life360 account by visiting the delete account option on the app, you permanently delete all the personal details.

If you no longer wish to use Life360 or its services, you may choose to permanently delete your account and clear all data from this over.

How To Delete Life360 Account

Deleting the Life360 account is simple and can be done right inside the Life360 app. So let’s see how.

Open the Life360 app.

Tap the Settings icon towards the top left corner of the screen.

Tap the Account option underneath Universal Settings.

Tap Delete Account under Account Management.

delete life360 account

Scroll down and tap as I confirm the above.

Tap the Delete my account button to proceed.

delete life360 account permanently

Now that you have deleted your Life360 account, you will be removed from all circles on Life360, and all your personal details will be deleted from the server as well.

Final Words

Deleting Life360 on your smartphone will help you to get rid of the tracking.

Since Life360 uses GPS services to track your location, it will not longer have any access to your location details.

Your last recorded location, just before deleting Life360, will be shown to other people in the circle.

Finally, if you delete your Life360 account, your account will be permanently deleted and removed from all the circles.

Life360 notifications are extremely crucial as they let you know about important updates from your family members as instant push notifications. When Life360 stops sending you notifications, you must manually open the Life360 app every time to know what’s going on.

Using the Life360 app without notifications is not as easy as you think. It is very annoying and not helpful at the same time.

There are several reasons why Life360 notifications are not working.

In this article, you will find why Life360 is not sending notifications and how to fix the same in less than five minutes.

Why Are Life360 Notifications Not Working?

There are several relations why Life360 is not sending you notifications.

Below are some of the possible reasons Life360 is not sending notifications.

Life360 App Notifications Turned Off

If notification access for Life360 or smart notifications in Life360 is disabled, the app won’t be able to send you any notifications.

Background App Restrictions

Restricting the app’s ability to run in the background may cause the app not to send any notifications. To solve the problem, you need to whitelist Life360 to allow running in the background.

Life360 Down

If the Life360 servers are down, the entire service will not work, including push notifications and smart notifications. If this is the case, there’s nothing much you can do about it.

Internet Problems

An active and stable Internet connection is necessary for your phone to receive all the push notifications sent by Life360. If your phone is not connected to the Internet or is experiencing any problems, Life360 notifications may not work.

Outdated Life360 App

Older versions of the Life360 app may have bugs or technical glitches that may make it not send any notifications. You need to update the app right away to fix the problem.

Pending Software Update

The outdated operating system can also interfere with notifications. You must update your Android or iOS device to run the latest version.

How To Fix Life360 Notification Not Working?

It’s incredibly frustrating to see Life360 notifications not working on your Android or iPhone.

Since we do not know the exact reason why Life360 is not sending notifications, you need to try all the troubleshooting steps below one by one.

Ensure Notification Access Is Enabled

The Life360 app needs notification permission on your phone to send push notifications. If the notifications are turned off, the app won’t be able to send notifications about any updates.

Follow the steps below to ensure notification access is enabled for Life360 on your phone.

On iPhone:

  • Open Settings.
  • Scroll down and tap Life360.
  • Tap Notifications.
  • Ensure ‘Allow notifications‘ option is enabled.
life360 notification setting
enable life360 notifications

On Android:

  • Open Settings.
  • Tap Apps/Installed Apps/Managed Apps option.
  • Select Life360.
  • Tap Permissions
  • Select Notifications and ensure the permission is turned on.

Once the notifications access is enabled, restart the app and see if the notifications are working now.

Check If Life360 Is Down

At times, the Life360 server goes down. And when it happens, users cannot receive any notifications or see updates.

There have been many instances where the Life360 server went down for several hours. Sadly, there is nothing you can do in this situation.

You need to wait until Life360 fixes the issue that imparts their service. Once the service is restored, you will start to receive notifications again.

But how will you know if the Life360 server is down?

To know if Life360 servers are down, you have two options.

The first one is to visit the DownDetector page of Life360 and see if there are reports of Life360 outages in the past 24 hours.

is life360 down

The second option is to visit the official Twitter handle of Life360 and see if they have officially reported any server downtime or service outages.

If there is any problem with Life360 server, you need to wait until it is fixed, or if everything looks good, follow the other steps below.

When the Life360 server is down, it may show last updated 2 hours ago or the ETA feature of Life360 won’t work.

Remove Background App Restriction

Many people do not grant Life360 permission to run in the background. If the app and its services are not running in the background, it will fail to send any notifications.

Many enable battery saver or power saving mode, and it restricts background activity, causing certain apps not to send notifications.

To fix the problem, you need to either remove the background app restriction or turn off power saving mode.

If you really want to enable power saver mode but at the same time receive notifications from Life360 then you will need to go to power saver settings and whitelist Life360.

Similarly, if you force close or stop Life360, the app and its services won’t work unless the app is opened again.

4. Update Life360

Updating Life360 is necessary to keep up with all the new features and bug fixes. If it’s been a while since you updated the Life360 app, it may be one of the reasons why the notification is not working.

Even if automatic app updates are enabled, it will fail to update the same in certain cases.

Follow the steps below to update Life360 on your Android or iOS smartphone instantly.

On Android:

  • Open Google Play Store.
  • Search for Life360.
  • Select Life360.
  • See if an Update button is shown. If yes, tap it to update the app.
  • Wait until it is done and then open the app again.

On iOS:

  • Open App Store.
  • Tap your profile picture from the top right corner of the screen.
  • Scroll down and find UPCOMING AUTOMATIC UPDATES section.
  • See if Life360 is shown under the upcoming updates section. If yes, tap the Update button to continue.

Once updated, open the app and see if notifications work now.

5. Ensure Internet Is Working Fine

As you already know, the Internet is absolutely necessary for Life360 to work. If the WiFi network to which the smartphone is connected is experiencing some network issues or the mobile data is not working properly, notification issues as such may arise.

Firstly, you need to ensure the Internet is working correctly. You may try connecting other devices to the same WiFi network and see if it works properly. Open the web browser and visit a couple of websites and see if they load properly.

Also try performing a speed test to ensure you have enough speed for essential apps to work.

If you see no network or phone off error message, it means the phone currently does not have network access.

Try switching between mobile data and WiFi as well. If your phone is already connected to WiFi, then use mobile data and vice versa.

6. Restart Your Phone

Restarting the phone has helped many people to fix many inconsistencies and anomalies concerning many apps and the operating system.

People rarely restart or turn off their phone these days. Restarting your phone once in a while is actually considered beneficial.

Follow the steps below to restart your Android or iOS device to fix the problem.

Restart an iPhone:

  • Press and hold the power and either volume buttons for a few seconds
  • Drag the slide to turn off iPhone.
  • Hold the power button for a few seconds.

Restart an Android Phone:

  • Press and hold the power button a couple of seconds
  • Tap the Restart button
  • Wait for the phone to turn off and turn on again.
Restart the phone

Once restarted, try using the Life360 app for a while and see if the notifications arrive on your phone.

If you have installed Life360 on your phone and are part of a circle, your real-time location will be tracked whenever you go anywhere. All the members of the group will be able to see your location.

On top of all that, the location status is updated almost instantaneously.

Many people install Life360 on their phone just because their parents, friends, or family members want them to do it, and they can’t delete Life360 app.

Many don’t like to be tracked.

If you do not want others in the circle to know your location, you need to turn on Life360 ghost mode or spoof the GPS location.

In this article, you will find how to turn on ghost mode on Life360 to hide real location easily.

To turn on ghost mode on the Life360 app, you need to install and enable the Fake GPS Location Spoofing app. Open the app, select any location of your choice, and start spoofing. Now the spoofed location will reflect on Life360.

What Does Life360 Ghost Mode Mean?

The ghost mode on Life360 simply means you change or spoof the location so others will not see your original location.

The ghost mode is not an official mode or feature on the Life360 app. We will use some third-party apps to get the job done. Plenty of apps on the App Store and Play Store let you hide and spoof GPS location easily.

For starters, Life360 fetches the location data from GPS. It then sends the location data to the Life360 server and updates it in the circle.

If you manage to spoof the GPS location, the spoofed location will be fetched by Life360 and displayed in the circle/group.

So other people in the circle will see your spoofed location as the real-time location inside the Life360 app.

Turning off the Internet or switching off the phone will show a no network or phone off error message or a gray circle will appear. So it isn’t an option.

Can You Spoof/Fake Life360 Location?

As you already know, Life360 fetches your location data via GPS. Whatever the GPS location, the same is recorded and sent to the Life360 server.

So if you manage to fake the GPS location on your phone, you can easily spoof the Life360 location.

So it is possible to fake the Life360 location.

Several apps help you to spoof your GPS location.

Spoofing the GPS location and using a VPN are not the same. So using a VPN won’t change your GPS location on Life360.

VPN only changes your IP address, but the GPS location remains the same. So you must use specific GPS location spoofing apps to get the job done.

How To Turn On Ghost Mode On Life360?

To turn on ghost mode on Life360, you need to spoof your GPS location. There are several ways to fake GPS locations on your phone.

Below we will use an app that lets us change the GPS location to any location of choice.

Firstly, open Google Play Store and search ‘GPS Spoofer’.

Install the ‘Fake GPS Location Spoofer‘ app.

fake gps location spoofer

Open your device Settings.

Tap About Phone.

Tap Software Information.

Tap the Build Number 7 times to enable developer options.

Once the developer option is enabled, head back to Settings and tap Developer Options.

open developer options.

Under Location, tap Select mock location app.

Now tap the name of the app you just installed.

Select Fake Location App

Once done, open the Fake GPS Location Spoofer app.

The blue marker that you see on the map is your current location.

Just change the black crosshair marker to any location you want to display in Life360.

change the gps location

After selecting the location, tap the blue play button towards the screen’s bottom left corner.

On the popup that appears, tap CONTINUE WITH ADS.

Now you will see a notification saying, ‘Mock Location is on’

Now you have successfully spoofed your GPS location.

The same GPS location will reflect on Life360 until you stop it.

Not just Life360, but all other apps installed on your phone, including Google maps, will use your spoofed location as the original one.

Keep the app open in the background as long as you want to spoof the location. Once done, you may stop the app and the GPS will start to pick your original location and the same will start to update in Life360 as well.

Once ghost mode is enabled, the ETA feature will no longe work.

Will Others Know If You Turn On Ghost Mode On Life360?

If you use a stable GPS location spoofing app, the chances of other people knowing you turned on ghost mode on life360 are rare.

If you use a location spoofing app that drops the location now and then, other people will be able to know about location spoofing very quickly. Whatever app you use, it should show a stable location until you change it.

People have often reported the location dancing between your original and spoofed one. If this happens, other people can surely know you spoofed the location.

Should You Change Life360 Location?

Many people do not like to be tracked. Many parents make their children forcefully install Life360 on their phones. If you do not want to share your original location with other members in the circle, you may choose to turn on ghost mode on Life360.

But there are many downsides to spoofing the Life360 location.

Your parents or other people in the circle won’t be able to know about your actual location. In case you meet with an accident or get stuck somewhere, your parents won’t know the same, and it will make it difficult for them to find you.

Think twice before you turn on ghost mode on Life360, and only do it if it is absolutely necessary.

What’s Next?

Now that you have spoofed your Life360 location, everyone in your circle will see the spoofed location instead of your original one.

Spoofing your GPS location will affect all the apps on your phone that use GPS. For example, even if you use Google Maps, it will show you the proofed location as your original location.

Also, check what to do when Life360 shows last updated 2 hours ago.

The different colors you see within the Life360 app mean different things. It is essential to know all the different colors on the Life60 app to know what exactly is happening.

Life360 is a fantastic app that lets you track the real-time location of any people in a group. You may install Life360 on your kids’, friends’, or family members’ phones, and you track the location.

One of the most asked questions about Life360 is what does the gray circle mean?

In this article, you will find what grey circle means and what to do when it appears.

What Does The Grey Circle Mean On Life360?

The grey circle on the Life360 app means the person has turned off location sharing or paused it temporarily. A gray color will appear when the location is not shared with other people in the circle.

For many reasons, people in a circle may choose to turn off location tracking. Once the location tracking of a specific person is disabled, a gray circle will appear, indicating the same.

For example, let’s say I’m heading somewhere, and I don’t want people in my Life360 circle to know about it. All I need to do is tap the circle until it turns grey. Once it turns grey, the location sharing is paused temporarily.

Gray Circle On Life360

You may tap the same circle again to enable location sharing, and as soon as you do the same, the circle turn green.

One thing I do not like about Life360 is that if I turn off location sharing, everyone in my circle will know it. So if you thought you could be off the radar, you are wrong.

Sure, others won’t know your exact location, but they will know you have paused location sharing. Since your location is paused, you can expect other group members to ask you about the same. So there’s no point in pausing location in the first place.

Everyone within the group has the option to pause location sharing. Even you can do the same by following the steps below.

Select location sharing of the Life360 app and tap the circle until it turns gray. Once the circle turns gray, your location sharing has paused.

To continue sharing your real-time location, tap the circle again; the gray color should now change.

If a member’s location in your circle is not updated, Life360 will show a message saying last updated x hours ago.

What Happens When The Circle Is Grey In Life360?

As you might already know by now, the grey circle on the Life360 app indicates the person has turned off location sharing.

If you’re curious about what happens next, read along.

As soon as a person in a circle pause location sharing, the circle instantly turns grey. It indicates the person has turned off location sharing, and everyone in the circle will easily know about it.

Many people think if they pause location sharing, others won’t know about it. Well, that’s not how it works.

If you want to trick people in your Life360 circle, that’s a different story.

If you turn off the location-sharing access or GPS for the Life360 app, a gray circle won’t appear for others. Other people will see no network or phone off error message just beneath your name.

How do you know if someone turned their location off on Life360?

There are multiple ways to know if a circle member has turned off their location on Life360. If the member has logged out of Life360 app or has turned off GPS from phone’s settings, other members will see an error message saying “Location/GPS turned off” or “No network”.

There have been many instances where the Life360 app kept showing location/GPS turned off or no network when the person did not intentionally turn off the location. Even if your phone loses signal or gets switched off, similar error messages may pop up.

Does your location show on Life360 if you have no service?

The GPS on a smartphone works independently of cellular data or WiFi. It means the GPS will work whether or not your phone is connected to the Internet.

But when it comes to the Life360 side of things, it needs an active internet connection to send the location data to its server and display it on the app.

In short, if your phone does not have service, Life360 won’t be able to show the real-time location.

Why Do The Circles Change Color On Life360?

Depending on the personal preference of a member in a circle and the activity they are doing currently, the color of the circle changes on Life360 app.

For example, the green colored circle tell that the circle member has allowed to be detected and has enabled the option for drive detection. Similarly, a purple colored circle indicates the device of the person is linked to the Life360 app.

The gray colored circle on the Life360 app indicates the location sharing is currently paused and the real time location is not being tracked.

What’s Next?

The gray circle on the Life360 app means the person has turned off location sharing or paused location sharing for the time being. Since location sharing is disabled, you won’t be able to know the other person’s exact real time location.

The next time you come across a gray circle in your Life360 circle, rest assured the person has disabled location sharing. Or, if you want to hide your location on Life360, tap the circle and make it grey.

Life360 is an excellent app for tracking the locations your loved ones visit. Once linked, everyone in the circle can see each other’s location, battery percentage, and a bunch of other data.

But at times, Life360 will fail to display any data. It will show no network or phone off beneath the person’s name. Many wonder why this happens and how to fix this.

In this article, you will find what no network or phone off means on Life360 and how to fix the same in less than five minutes.

What Does No Network or Phone Off Mean On Life360?

No network or phone off status on Life360 means the other person’s phone does not have Internet access, the location access is turned off, or the phone is switched off.

But the above-mentioned does not necessarily have to be why Life360 shows no network or phone off. Many people have reported that the Life360 app shows the same error message even when the other person’s phone is turned on and connected to the Internet.

Generally speaking, below are the five instances where Life360 shows no network or phone off.

  • Location Access Denied: Location access is necessary for the Life360 app to work correctly. Without location access, the app won’t be able to track and record the real-time location.
  • Background Location Access Turned Off: You have the option to disable background location access on modern-day smartphones. If this option is enabled, the Life360 app can only access your location data when the app is opened. When the app is closed, the app won’t be able to track your location, hence showing the no network or phone off error message.
  • Phone Turned Off: When the phone is turned off, the Life360 app isn’t running and will show the offline status. At times, it may show no network or phone off error just beneath the person’s name.
  • No Internet: Even if the location settings or GPS are enabled, if there is no Internet access, Life360 won’t be able to communicate with the servers and record the same. So if the Internet is turned off, the same error may show up.
  • No Signal: If your phone is in a remote location with no signal or network coverage, the Life360 app won’t be able to go online. It is yet another reason why Life360 no network or phone off error appears.

It is also seen that the same error message shows if the other person delete Life360 app.

When Life360 experiences network related problems, it will show last updated 2 hours ago, cannot connect, no network, and more.

How To Fix Life360 No Network or Phone Off Issue

Now that you know why Life360 no network or phone off error message shows up, let’s look at what you need do to fix the problem fast.

All you need to do is press and hold your phone’s power button. Tap the Restart option. Wait for your phone to turn on again and open the Life360 app.

Update Life360 App

If it’s been a while since you updated the Life360 app on your phone, any bugs or glitches may be causing the problem.

You should update Life360 whenever a new update is available. Newer versions of the Life360 app come with bug fixes and new features.

Follow the steps below to update the Life360 app on your phone to fix the problem.

On Android:

Open Google Play Store

Search for Life360.

See if an Update button is shown.

If yes, tap the Update button to instantly update the app to newer version.

On iOS:

Open App Store.

Tap your profile picture.

Scroll down and see Life360 is shown under the UPCOMING AUTOMATIC UPDATES section.

If yes, tap the Update button and wait a few minutes.

What’s Next?

In most cases, Life360 shows no network or phone off error message when the app cannot connect to the Internet, no network access is available, or the phone is turned off.

But in certain cases, the app may incorrectly show no network or phone off when there is a network or app-related problem.

The next time you encounter this error, ensure you have turned on the Internet, location access, and finally, restart your phone.

If you are concerned about your privacy, also see if Life360 has access to your search history.

FAQ

Can Life360 track with no service?

No service means no Internet or network access. Since your phone does not have service, Life360 won’t be able to track. But if your phone is connected to WiFi, Life360 can track your location since it has got network access.

Can Life360 work without Internet?

No. Internet is absolutely necessary for the Life360 app to work. The app collects your location data via GPS and sends it to the Life360 server. The same is then updated within the circle.

Life360 is an incredible tracking app to see the real-time location of anyone within your smartphone. Recently many people have been facing a weird problem where Life360 says “last updated 2 hours ago”.

For many people, the status on Life360 stays as last updated 2 hours ago indefinitely. No matter what they do, it remains the same.

There are a couple of different reasons why it happens.

In this article, I will share why Life360 say last updated 2 hours ago and what to do to fix it immediately.

If Life360 says last updated 2 hours ago, you need to ensure the phone is connected to the internet, run in the background permission is enabled, location access is granted, and the app is updated to the latest version. Also, try resetting the phone to fix if the GPS is malfunctioning.

Why Does Life360 Say Last Updated 2 Hours Ago

Life360 may get stuck on the last updated 2 hours ago or more for various reasons. Below are some of the common ones:

  • The device got turned off: The battery is low on the other person’s smartphone, or it has turned off due to a low battery. Once the device is turned off, the Life360 app can no longer track its location until turned on.
  • The phone is connected to VPN: Life360 may not work properly if a VPN is active on the other person’s phone. VPN changes and masks the actual location of the device, which messes up location sharing with Life360.
  • Network issues: For Life360 to update the real-time location, the phone must be connected to the Internet. If there is any network issue or if the phone is not connected to the Internet, Life360 will say last updated two hours ago.
  • Other person disabled location sharing: Life360 app allows users to leave a circle or group whenever they feel to. If a person disables location sharing on Life360, a message saying last updated two hours ago or more may show up.
  • Outdated app: If the Life360 app installed on your phone is outdated, errors like this may appear. A bug or technical glitch may be stopping the app from showing the current location.

Similar to the last updated 2 hours ago error message, in some cases, no network or phone turned off error message is also shown.

How To Fix Last Updated 2 Hours Ago On Life360

Ensure The Internet Is Turned On And Working

Internet access is necessary for the Life360 app to work smoothly. You need an active Internet connection to send the location info from a device to the Life360 servers. If you disable mobile data or WiFi on your device, Life360 cannot update the location.

Life360 will show last updated 2 hours ago if the other person’s phone is somewhere without any signal or network access. The same problem will appear if the signal is too weak.

Enable Internet

Try visiting a few websites or using other apps on your phone and see if there is Internet access. Also, ensure Internet access is enabled for the Life360 app.

Enable Location Sharing

Location sharing settings must be turned on for the Life360 app.

If the location sharing settings are disabled, the app won’t be able to collect and send your location info to the Life360 servers.

On all modern smartphones, you can individually control which app can access the location settings. If you accidentally disabled location sharing access for Life360, it may show the error saying last updated two hours ago.

Similarly, if the location permission is set as ‘Allow only while using the app’, location sharing will stop as soon as you close the Life360 app. You should set it to Allow Always.

Follow the steps below to enable location sharing for Life360 on Android and iOS:

On Android:

  • Open Settings
  • Go to Apps
  • Select Installed Apps
  • Go through the list of installed apps and tap Life360
  • Tap Permissions
  • Tap Location permission
  • Select Allow all the time.

On iOS:

  • Open Settings
  • Scroll down and select Life360
  • Tap Location
  • Select Always
  • Enable Precise Location
Enable Location Sharing Life360

Once location sharing is enabled for the Life360 app, it will start tracking the location and updating it in real-time.

Restart Your Phone

In many cases, restarting the phone should help fix the problem. A technical glitch or bug may be causing the Life360 app not to work correctly or the GPS module to malfunction.

A simple restart should help you get rid of the bug.

Hold the power button and tap restart.

Wait for the device to turn on again and open the Life360 app once.

Check if the location status has been updated.

Update The Life360 App

There have been issues in the past where a bug in the Life360 app impacted the real-time location visibility.

When bugs like this appear, you should update the Life360 app to the latest version to fix the problem. The bug may stop the Life360 app from sending the real time location or making the app unable to display the same.

bug on life360 app

Follow the steps below to update Life360 app on your Android or iOS devices to the latest version.

On iOS:

  • Open App Store.
  • Tap your profile picture from the top right corner of the screen.
  • Scroll down and locate the UPCOMING AUTOMATIC UPDATE section.
  • Tap the Update button next to the Life360 app icon.
  • Wait for a while until it downloads and installs the new update.

On Android:

  • Open Google Play Store.
  • Search for the Life360 app.
  • Select Life360 from the list of apps.
  • Tap the Update button.
  • Wait until it downloads and installs the update.

Allow Life360 To Run In The Background

The permission to run in the background is mandatory for Life360 to update the real-time location constantly.

If the app is denied permission to run in the background, the app will be completely closed as soon as you dismiss the app.

On the other hand, if you enable the permission to run in the background, the app will keep updating the real-time location even if you close the app.

Follow the steps below to permit Life360 app to run in the background.

On iOS:

  • Open Settings
  • Scroll down and select Life360
  • Enable the option – Background App Refresh
Background App Refresh Life360

On Android:

  • Open Settings
  • Tap Permissions
  • Select Life360
  • Tap Run the app in the background permission
  • Toggle it on

Now that the Life360 app is granted permission to run in the background, it will update the location even if you close it completely.

Disable VPN

If you are using VPN, it will change the way the Life360 app sees your location. As you already know, a VPN will connect your phone to a VPN server hiding your original location.

Some VPN apps can block Life360 and a few other tracking apps when it is active. If the VPN is active, consider disabling it if you want the Life360 app to work correctly.

If you want to use a VPN, only use it when necessary and disable it when not in use.

Sometimes, a VPN won’t block location sharing for the Life360 app. But the location updated on the Life360 app will be that of the VPN server location.

For example, if you are in the United States and connected to a VPN server in the UK, the Life360 app may show your current location as the UK.

Contact Life360

If none of the troubleshooting steps above help you fix the updated two hours ago problem on the Life360 app, it’s time to contact customer support.

Head to the Life360 support page, scroll down and find two options to contact them.

contact life360

You can either chat with a customer support executive or submit a ticket.

What’s Next?

In most cases, lack of network signal or Internet access, location settings disabled, or run in the background permission disabled are the reason why Life360 says last updated 2 hours ago.

Once you enable the required permissions, the network is working fine, and restart the phone; the Life360 app should start functioning properly. It will now update the real-time location continuously.
